Understanding Colorado Youth Serving Programs in the Juvenile Justice Arena

In Colorado, there are many agencies and programs designed to support youth and families as they navigate the juvenile justice system. The Colorado Youth Detention Continuum (CYDC), formerly known as Senate Bill 94, was specifically designed to reduce the number of youth entering a detention facility and reduce the length of stay for those who are detained. There are several points of impact for CYDC along the juvenile justice continuum from pre-arrest to adjudication.

Additionally, there are agencies with specific funding and missions to serve youth in the prevention category, post-adjudication and at the end of the continuum at the point of commitment to the Division of Youth Services. CYDC case managers assist youth and families in navigating the juvenile justice system by advocating and supporting, assessing and supervising and connecting to ongoing services that will ultimately reduce further involvement in the system.
